I never use my bathroom scale except, one day, I decided to look out my window, so I stepped up on the scale to get a better look. I was shocked to discover I was 40 pounds overweight. When I was a young girl I would end all my letters, and diary entries with “live, love, laugh”. Back in the late 90s, I began receiving an inspired message and each morning from 5am until 6am I would type away at my computer, and sip from my rather large cup of coffee. The daily message ended with “live, love, laugh, we are complete”.

Opening to receive these messages was new to me; I had my doubts, and didn’t really take it seriously. One-day after many weeks of writing I received a gift in the mail. Inside was a pillow with the words, “live, love, laugh” on it. My friend Betty, who was a recipient of the messages, had this pillow on her couch for years and felt compelled to pass it my way. When I saw the pillow my doubt vanished and I opened more fully to the experience. This was the beginning of something very interesting.

In 2001, I was inspired to take a cross-country tandem bike trip with my 10-year-old son and daughter. The trip didn’t turn out the way I thought and I experienced a lot of shame and humiliation from this outrageous idea. I also lost faith in my spirit guides and myself. Recently, I released my humiliation and guilt. Once I did I was able to see my journey as part of a bigger picture and it made complete sense.

Although the details changed and the outcome wasn’t what I expected, over the years the essence of the “bike trip” never altered. This is what I held in my heart then, and still do today…

The new life I envision is one of compassion, unity, equality, laughter, passion, celebration, and joy. “This bike ride is a prayer in motion. We pray for mutual respect between all people regardless of age, sex, race, gender, and religion. We pray for tolerance, that all people embrace and appreciate the differences of humanity.”

In light of the events of September 11th, our world vision is changing. Humanity is shifting its collective viewpoint from that of separatism towards that of unity: United We Stand – Divided We Fall.

“Riding a tandem bike is a demonstration of unity. Unless my son and I became united, operating in cooperation, in balance, in harmony, and in rhythm with each other, we would have literally fallen. Our lives depend on the integrity of each other, kind of like life on earth.”
From where I stand now, I see that the “bike trip” has been a metaphor of life. It is my life. I am still riding through life on a tandem bike and becoming more and more cooperative, balanced, and in harmony with God and myself. It seems as if we keep changing places on the bike. When my ego is in the front seat, look out. I am wobbly. When God’s (Higher Self, Source, Spirit, whatever your word is for this idea) in the front seat I often scream when we’re cascading down hills, twisting and turning through life, but I am becoming more and more trusting and enjoying the scenery with delight.

I wasn’t aware of the profoundness of my life adventure, my own unique journey. I was caught up in the stress and the fear of living believing that I was small and powerless. This is a huge cosmic joke. I Imagine I am riding a Tandem Bike and God’s in the front seat. God looks like me, right? What if I am God, or God is me? What if I am limitless and powerful?

This bicycling adventure is a tribute to the sacredness of all life, to the importance of loving all life forms, especially the self, and to the joy of openhearted laughter. “I want our bike tour to be a reminder of the mystery and the magic of life.”

And, we’re still pedaling!

Yup, still pedaling and here’s another update. Since I wrote the above information I had a viewpoint shift. I realized that I was creating separation between God and me, thus the Tandem Bike.

When I took the Avatar Master Course years ago, people were talking about Oneness and I had no idea what this was about. I decided then and there that I would figure it out. It took me years but finally this past weekend I created the intention “I am One” and saw my Tandem bike become a bicycle! For me, being separate was creating conflict and division. Remember, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”? I was finally united and I felt more stable!
