Anew local radio program called “What’s The Point” – hosted by Eaglemoon Raes every Monday morning from 5 to 7 a.m. on WHUS 91.7 FM – has a unique format that is a departure from typical early-morning talk or news programming. The two hours are filled with positive, uplifting and life-affirming discussions, meditations and music.

WHUS 91.7 FM is broadcast from the campus of the University of Connecticut and is known for offering its listeners an array of diverse programming.
“What’s the Point?” host Eaglemoon Raes is no stranger to the airwaves, having been a frequent guest on various WHUS programs, including “Radio Naturopath” with Dr. Fran Storch. Her background is in a variety of alternative healing arts, and she has been a practicing hypnotherapist, a Reiki practitioner and teacher for many years, as well as a licensed Avatar Master.
For years, friends and clients have been encouraging Raes to use her soothing voice and healing techniques to reach a larger audience by hosting a radio program. She finally took their suggestions and trained at WHUS’s studios, all the while drawing from her vast experience to come up with a working concept for her program.
“My intent is to offer my listeners programming that will be positive and uplifting – to offer people the opportunity to bring about positive and personal development in a non-intrusive and noninvasive way,” Raes said. “The world is chaotic, and my goal is to help people take back their power with self-change by showing them how to empower themselves and lead a joyful, peaceful life.”
Raes brings to the airwaves much of the same advice and techniques she uses in her private practice. At 6 a.m. each Monday, she broadcasts an affirming meditation for the audience. The meditations that she presents are time-tested mind “journeys” that she uses with her private clients.
“For some listeners, the thought of meditation and hypnosis is a foreign subject,” she said. “They may be a little wary of this sort of thing, and I want to assure the audience that what I am broadcasting is healthy and uplifting. The mental state that is reached in meditation and hypnosis is a normal, natural state that we enter into all of the time, whether we realize it or not. For instance, when you are surfing the Web or watching a movie, you are in a state of hypnosis. All hypnosis is actually self-induced ; no one is controlling you. It’s not like the theatrical hypnosis that you see in movies. You are totally aware of everything that is going on around you. This state of mind can help you relax and think more deeply. It can help you make positive changes in your life.”
“The title of the show, ‘What’s The Point?’, came to me while I was on vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina ,” said Raes. “My family and some friends were there together, but in separate cars, so we agreed to meet up during the day at a land’s end beach, which we all referred to as the point. When I arrived at the point with my car full of children and didn’t see our friends, I phoned them and found out they were at a different beach that they thought was ‘the point.’ We finally got together, and after some heated discussions about which geographical area actually was ‘the point,’ we had a toast and a very mind-expanding conversation about how our differences in perspectives are the only reasons we fight. Once we learn to respect and tolerate each other’s perspective differences will we learn to live in harmony.”
